ARE YOU A THERMOSTAT OR THERMOMETER PERSON?

A THERMOMETER PERSON: A Thermometer is a measuring instrument for measuring temperature. It therefore tells the temperature of the environment around it. Thermometer people only complain and are always saying how good or bad things are.

IN THE CROWD: They have no self identity but only the identity of the crowd. The thermometer can shout “hosanna” today and shout “crucify Him” tomorrow.

AS A CHRISTIAN: Such people never walk by faith but only by sight. Like Peter they easily get moved by the storms of life because they easily switch their focus from Jesus to the storms.

A THERMOSTAT PERSON: A Thermostat is a regulator for automatically regulating temperature by starting or stopping the supply of heat. A thermostat therefore measures the temperature of an environment but unlike the thermometer, the thermostat controls the temperature around them. When it gets too hot they shut down the source of heat and same when it gets too cold. Unlike the thermometer, thermostats don’t just helplessly sit down and play victim.  They do something about the situation around them.

IN THE CROWD: They feel what everyone is feeling but they do something about the problem because they spend all their energy doing than talking.  They are hardly ever complainers. They are usually the leaders because everyone looks up to them to do something about the problem.

AS CHRISTIAN: They walk by faith and not by sight because no matter how bad the situation around them seems, they put the power inside them to work believing that although the situation does not change instantly, it will with time. Like Jesus they speak to the storm and watch it calm down.
