HOW CAN I STOP DOING WHAT I HATE

The Apostle Paul made this shocking revelation of his own struggles with sin. In Romans 7:14-25 we read of his own struggles. What I've realized over the past eighteen years in ministry is that most Christians after accepting Christ still struggle with some addictions. They know that 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that the old is gone and the new has come, but they keep looking out for the new but they can't seem to find the new. The question we want to try and answer is how we can really become new after the born again experience. From Genesis 2:7, we get to know how we were created. The Bible says that God first formed man from dust representing our flesh. Then He breathed into the flesh and that is when man became a living being. No wonder Jesus said in John 6:63 that the Spirit gives life. So our two major components are our spirit and our flesh.

According Galatians 5:17 we learn that the two are in a fight. In same verse we read that we do what we hate because of that fight. So the big question is if we do what we hate as a result of this fight then we need to really pay attention to making our spirit wins this fight right. ..? Great, we are getting somewhere. Before I continue I want to illustrate my next point with a story.

There was a man who made a living by betting with two dogs. He will go to one place or the other and ask people to bet on which dog will win the impending fight. The mystery was that this man always won. Everyone was intrigued by how this man did it. Many tried challenging him more and more but he always won. Then after many years of winning, one man had the humility to ask the man to show him his secret and in return pay him a million dollars. The man agreed only on condition that he got the money first. The man who wanted to know the secret was not just eager but was also rich so had the money transferred. Then the man answered and said. My secret is so simple; it will make you say to yourself, “why didn't I think about it earlier?”. He said go ahead. The dog owner said my secret is: "feed one, starve one".

Amazing isn't it? Well that is the exact point in driving at. To win the fight we are talking about in Galatians 5:17 we need to make no provision for the flesh which is what Romans 13:14 says. This immediately implies that we should make provision for our spirits. To do that especially following the feed one stave one principle we need to know the food that our spirit eats. Top on the menu for the spirit is faith. Faith is taking from the spiritual realm into the physical.

We are saved by grace but only through faith. Our spirit remains dead until we activate it by faith. Many of us want to feel first before believing. But the definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1 makes it clear that faith believes before feeling. All those who wait to feel will feel failure. Only those who decide to believe will feel victory. You see contrary to what we have believed in the past, our feelings are not that powerful in controlling our behaviour. Our feelings have always followed after how we think. You just check how you are feeling right now; it is just because you are thinking that way. If I were to tell you right now that one of your parents was dead and you did not manage your emotions, you will most probably start feeling sad immediately even though the information is false.

So the issue is so simple: use the mind God gave you to feed on the truth of His word. That is food for your spirit. Your spirit will be empowered. Make no room for your fleshly thinking. I myself used to masturbate and fornicate even when I had given my life to Christ. But that was because I fed my flesh not only with porn and secular music but more importantly I DID NOT FEED MY SPIRIT. Jesus said in Matthew 26:41 that your spirit is willing to do what He God pleases. Hallelujah we have a willing spirit. We are one step ahead. Hallelujah!

When we allow the Holy Spirit in his power, He feeds or spirits into satisfaction. I see someone's spirit so full and ready to fire. In Jesus name give your spirit some good food of faith. Believe at least one word from God that you have taken for granted in the past. Remember from Joshua 1:8 that success belongs to those who meditate and not just read the word. Spend time to focus on a truth like Titus 2:11-12. This truth will generate faith that will help you get rid of what you hate. You are only doing what you hate because you are filled with hate information. Fill yourself with love information and you will be shocked at how easy it is. The love of God constrains us. I speak not of what I've heard but what I've experienced. I used to search for Internet cafes to download porn. Today I have broadband Internet blasting in my house but I only think about using it for wonderful opportunities like this. Hallelujah!!

Change is in the house. Jesus is here and somebody is clothing themselves with Him. We can pray now great people.
