Watching one of Ghana's movie stars John Dumelo on TV the other day, he was asked if he was really naked in one of the movies he starred in and he responded yes because he believed it was relevant to the story.
Just then I exclaimed, what a commitment level to what he believed in!
I ask myself whether I was willing to suffer any shame for my Jesus who went naked on the cross for me? So I did some introspection and came up with some unforgettable lessons from Mr. Dumelo which I want to share with you.
GO ALL OUT OR GET OUT
There is no doubt that John Dumelo is a great actor only because he goes all out. He could go as far as getting naked in front of the camera! As I travel around the world and come into contact with young people who say they they love Jesus and yet cannot make space to listen to what He has to say to them each morning before the do anything else, it leaves me questioning what sort of love that is.
Many of us these days see the cross as a decoration symbol but at the time that Jesus declared all who wanted to follow Him must take up the cross everyone understood that it was death. In my little time of growing in Christ I know how impossible it is to grow in my faith until I decide to die to my own desires to take up that of what Jesus Himself has for me. O LORD, it is about you and the gospel only and nothing else.
Taking relevance a scripture that comes to mind is Matthew 5:16 which commands me to shine wherever I find myself so that people will see and give glory to God in heaven. Simply put, I should ensure that my life depicts the relevance of God in my culture that God will continually remain the center of the lives of many around me. Wow! this shining talks about me using all the gifts that God has already deposited in me from birth.
The world seems to have had a lot of talking-Christians and is looking for shining-Christians. These Christians will bring Christ to life in their homes, schools, beaches, pool sides, facebook pages indeed everywhere. Jesus wants to shine through some talented musicians, mathematicians, actors, soccer players, you name it. The question is whether anyone is ready to make Jesus relevant through them. Thinking of it I believe I can make Jesus shine through my sense of humour...what do youthink?
DEFEND YOUR DECISIONS OR LOSE CREDIBILITY
Many children of God love to keep a low profile with the excuse, "I don't want to offend anyone". Well the day the interviewer asked John Dumelo if he was really naked in the video, I really didn't think he was going to be that bold to confirm it, let alone defend it. Well before my eyes I saw admission and defense unfold. Just then I resolved to be as loud as I could anywhere I was asked about who I was.
That ain't easy at least if you really want to do it at the John 'Dumeloic'(if there is any word like that) levels. People will look at you in way and probably quote this popular youth cliche "I know right" and that can be enough to sentence you to self imposed silence for God knows how long. The Word of God tells me to be have an answer for everyone who wants one concerning my faith in Jesus. I am taking this seriously for the sake of John D.
So before I end this peace I want to say that although this piece is not an open applause to John D's birthday suit scene, it has succeeded in making me rethink my so called commitment to Jesus.
So please join me pray the prayer below if you think you need to shift to a higher gear for Jesus:
"LORD I GIVE YOU MY LIFE, TAKE IT AS A PLEASING SACRIFICE....IN JESUS NAME....AMEN" (Romans 12:1-2)
Your level just changed!!
