I opened the phone lines during faithbook, the radio music and counselling program I host on Hitz FM every Sunday night from 6pm to 8pm. A sweet female voice of concern called in and requested sincerely to ask a question on a subject different from what we were talking about. I gave her the go ahead and on she spoke, "I am ashamed of my mum because of her smallish size, each time I am with my friends and I see her, I have to hide or pretend as if I have not seen her. I really want to get over it but I can’t seem to be able to do so, any suggestions?” It sounded weird to me at first and almost foolish to me until my conscience judged me ever so strongly. I was a victim to this not too long ago. During my junior and senior High School years I resisted every attempt of my parents to visit me in school especially my dad because he did not have affluence looking features not to mention the fact that he was always on foot.

When we are alone in our home we face no social pressure, however immediately two people come together, there is either overt or covert competition. This competition depending on how secure or insecure the individual is can lead to adoption of diverse behaviours in order to keep up an appearance.

The Bible as always has a solution to every life’s issue. The Apostle Paul offered this solution in Romans chapter 12 verse 3 “…and so I tell each of you not to think you are better than you really are…”

How many of us have not work tooth and nail to communicate something that is very different from what truly pertains. It comes from a basic human drive which says, “you better out do the other person or forever remain a slave”

What happened to God looking at us after creation and declaring with a mark of satisfaction that it was all good. We are fearfully and wonderfully made was David’s conclusion in Psalm 13:14. In the book of Acts 17:26 says that “From one person God made all nations who live on earth, and he decided when and where every nation would be” and that included our parents, our country and in fact everything that defines your identity.

Purpose is the reason why everything exists. In Isaiah 46:10 Gid declares that He is the one that declares the end from the beginning and what He says is what will stand. How marvelous! It means that God doesn’t start anything until He has finished. So you started because God had finished His purposes with you and His finished purpose is good and expected according to Jeremiah 29:11.

When you begin from the place where you believe that God has a reason for everything then you will start accepting the fact that even when your mother looks smallish, it is to accomplish a certain effect that it is so. Your freedom therefore begins as you walk in the confidence of a perfect creation that is fearfully and wonderfully made in all facets.

You cannot go wrong when you understand and walk in purpose because in the words of Nick Vujicic who was born with no arms and no legs, he declared that it was only when he accepted the fact that he was created that way to fulfil God’s own agenda that He started living life. So the conclusion is simple.

Who you are, who your parents are and which country you are is God’s idea and it is in accepting His will for you that you start living life that will make those you are competing against bow to you. It starts with accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal savior, contact me and I will show you how. God bless you.
